THE WORKSHOP
Being in synch with the internal and external rhythms of nature is essential to our well-being. One of the gifts of yoga and its sister science, ayurveda, is their ability to engender in us a growing sensitivity to our own prana so that we learn to move through our lives with steadiness (sthira) and ease (sukha). These two Sanskrit terms are familiar to most yoga students from an oft-quoted aphorism in Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra: sthira-sukham asanam which is most commonly translated, “posture (asana) [should be] stable (sthira) and comfortable (sukha),” but is more literally translated as “resolutely abide in a good space.” Becoming established in “good space,” however, is only possible when our prana is healthy. And cultivating healthy prana is a process that extends beyond the edge of our yoga mat into every aspect of our daily lives. When we start infusing our yoga practice, lifestyle, diet, and relationships with sthira and sukha, we pave the way for a life of balance and spiritual insight. Join leading yoga teacher and Ayurvedic practitioner Scott Blossom for a weekend of asana, pranayama, chanting, meditation, dialogue and reflection on how we can all live in rhythm with our prana.
SATURDAY:
“CULTIVATION OF PRANA TOWARD MEDITATION,
DRAWING ON AYURVEDIC & HATHA YOGA TEXTS”
Drawing from both Ayurvedic and Hatha Yoga texts, Saturday’s class focuses on vinyasa yoga, breathing practices, and chanting for cultivating our prana as a preparation for meditation. Scott will also discuss how we can create a balanced vinyasa on and off the mat to prevent the hectic pace and stress of modern life from disrupting the flow of our prana and depleting our life force. Participants will also receive an article by Scott and world renowned Ayurvedic teacher Dr. Robert Svoboda that outlines yoga, diet, and lifestyle practices for living in harmony with your prana. All levels welcome.
SUNDAY:
“PRACTISING YOGA & EATING IN HARMONY WITH THE SEASONS”
Sunday’s class will explore how the seasons affect our prana and how we can keep our yoga practice and diet in sync with their procession. Scott will teach vinyasa yoga that incorporates breathing practices, chanting and meditation for staying balanced in the summertime as well as facilitate a discussion of specific foods for balancing your individual constitution during the summer and throughout the year. If you are new to Ayurveda this will be an excellent chance to discover your Ayurvedic constitution and introduce yourself to some basic principles of diet for supporting your health and yoga practice. All levels welcome.
WORKSHOP FEE: £120
