Workshop 1
Yoga as Therapy:
Muscle Imbalances

Muscle imbalances can contribute to pain, injury, and chronic problems in any part of the body, and a thoughtful yoga practice can help to correct these imbalances. In this workshop, we will look at the anatomy of important muscle groups, and how imbalances (strong vs. weak and tight vs. flexible) contribute to mis-alignments that set the stage for problems. Then we’ll practice yoga poses and sequences to help correct imbalances, improve alignment and relieve pain.

Day one will focus on the pelvis and low back. Important muscle groups include the psoas and hamstrings, and the abdominals and erector spinae.

Day two will focus on the shoulder and upper back. Important muscle groups include the trapezius, pectorals, serratus anterior, and rotator cuff.

Some previous study of anatomy is helpful but not mandatory.

Are you eligible?

For yoga therapists, yoga teachers, trainee teachers and advanced students only. Yogacampus Yoga Therapy Diploma Course students can count this event towards their elective tuition hours.

Workshop 2
Exploring the Art of Sequencing through Asana Practice

Julie’s previous London workshops have focused on formal anatomy instruction, but this year, by popular demand, Julie has agreed to offer a more asana based workshop. As always, Julie will weave anatomy into her instructions to help students understand how to create strong, spacious and beautiful poses, although no previous anatomy experience is required. Teachers will be especially interested in Julie’s sequencing, which starts with fairly simple movements that students of all levels and abilities can try. She then integrates the movements into more complex patterns, which gradually builds the strength, flexibility and awareness needed to do more challenging poses and go deeper into the practice.

Each of the two days will include a wide range of asana for a fully rounded practice and exploration of applied anatomy for the whole body in asana practice. Saturday will begin at our foundation, the feet, and work up through the legs to the pelvis and spine. Sunday will continue with the focus on the spine, moving up to the neck and spread of awareness out to the shoulders and arms. During each asana practice we will, from time to time, widen the lens to awareness of the whole body within the pose, the ultimate intention in all practice.

Uptake for Julie’s workshops is usually rapid, so early booking is advised, when you will also get the advantage of the early bird price.

Are you eligible?

The workshop is open to everyone with at least one year of asana practice. It is not a therapeutics class, so won’t be appropriate for students with acute injuries or severely limited mobility.

“Finding a profound knowledge of the human body combined with a gift for clear communication is a privilege and a joy. Julie’s teaching has been of far reaching and lasting value both to my yoga teaching and my personal practice.
