Who is The Yoga Academy 2-year course for?
Teacher Training Courses with The Yoga Academy are designed for students who, after some years of personal practice and study of yoga, have recognised in themselves a genuine desire to share aspects of yoga that have transformed their own life and wish to embark upon the rewarding and challenging journey of teaching yoga to others. Equally, we also welcome all serious students of yoga who wish to significantly deepen and broaden their knowledge and understanding of this ancient tradition and its deeply relevant offerings for everybody in today’s world, whether or not they currently aim to become teachers themselves.
Over the years, many of our students have also been health professionals keen to broaden their knowledge and skills to integrate yoga as part of their group and 1:1 work with their clients. Likewise, we have also trained established teachers who have gained certification in a specific style of yoga or practicing teachers who have recognised in themselves the need refresh and renew their practice and deepen their study of anatomy, asana, pranayama, philosophy and consciousness.
Not specific to any one contemporary school or style of yoga, this course is structured to offer a broad and thorough foundation for the teaching of Classical and Hatha Yoga, from which teachings of the majority of yoga practiced today are sourced, while integrating functional anatomy and physiology in asana practice. Significantly deepening your well of knowledge and experience in yoga theory and practice, the elements of this teacher training course have been carefully designed and put together to give you the necessary set of tools that will empower you as a teacher to fulfil the calling to share yoga’s transformative potential with others. You will learn to communicate teachings of yoga in a clear, safe, and confident manner and develop your ability to understand your students and your role toward them.
It is Simon Low’s (Principal of The Yoga Academy) belief that a teacher reaches his or her full potential by developing a teaching style that is a reflection and a manifestation of the teacher’s heartfelt and authentic experience. After establishing a solid foundation of knowledge, during the two years of study this course helps students unravel, understand and evolve their own uniquely personal teaching style. Simply becoming a mouthpiece for all you have learned is an option, but not one to be considered on this course. As yoga teachers we need to be a guide, an inspiration and a catalyst for our students’ personal development and integration.
The course is underpinned by our understanding that our spiritual, physical and psychological wellness are directly and beneficially influenced by the practice of yoga. Our journey toward a peaceful and balanced life affects others. The teaching of yoga is a privilege and a blessing. A way to give something back to those who support our choices and lifestyle, and to those who need your care.
